THE DISRUPTIVE POWER OF ATTENTION AND OBSERVATION | The disruptive power of pure attention and observation

PH: Cris Wild

This year I will be facilitating a workshop at the Berlin Change Days 2016: “Use Photography to enhance the disruptive power of pure attention and observation“.
The Berlin Change Days is an international meeting of people who are passionate about bringing change to organizations, and the world. It is the place to meet people from around the globe, learn, network and have fun.

The subject that suggests at that time this congress is: “The art of disruption“. How to do things totally different. The different workshops will demonstrate creative ways to deal with the challenges of change.

And it is here where I will offer my workshop of wich you have here the text of the official web site, dentro del programa.

USE PHOTOGRAPHY TO ENHANCE THE DISRUPTIVE POWER OF PURE ATTENTION AND OBSERVATION

Artists and creative people know that simply observing and paying attention to reality, waiting to receive inputs, waiting to make new connections, is a highly disruptive activity. To go on observing as tension and uncertainty increase, without giving in to the temptation to go into action mode, is a challenge in any situation.

The challenge becomes much bigger if you are intervening in a client-system that is expecting you to deliver results.
The challenge becomes much bigger if you are intervening in a client-system that is expecting you to deliver results. The easiest path is then to prematurely formulate hypotheses, develop designs and prototypes, apply tools and propose actions. Photography is an art form that enhances our ability to disrupt reality by just paying attention and observing it.

During this workshop you will learn how to use photography to get immediate feedback about your own process of observation, though the pictures you can take without leaving the stance of the attentive observer. You will enrich your practice as a disruptive agent for change by raising your awareness of your preferences when you observe and exploring alternative ways of paying attention and observing.

// As a participant you don’t need any previous knowledge of photography. Just remember to bring with you a charged cell-phone with built-in camera.
